Do you think it's a good idea for me to acquire pet insurance for my dog?

I've had many pets, but only two were purebreds I bought.

My dog needs insurance.

Except for Peter, a Black Heeler I met in South Texas, my pets were sicker than my rescues. He was hurt and resting in a pasture in winter. He looked up as we passed by, and I had to climb a fence to reach him.

My husband was crying, even though he's not usually emotional. When I picked up Peter, he smiled at me, then looked away, as if ashamed.

I took him to my father's ranch house. My family was scared by how he smelled. I fed and hydrated him, and later, I found a broken bone in his leg.

Needless to say,

Having insurance for Peter's care would have been great. After 7 weeks of IV fluids, he had his leg amputated. He had many health issues but was very friendly.

Peter is the only pet with health problems. But, loving and saving your pets is worth every penny. You'll be rewarded in ways you can't imagine.

Pet insurance is not a good deal financially. You'll usually save money by not buying it. It's rare for something expensive to happen.

It might be worth it for certain breeds with health issues. It's like forced savings if you can't manage your money.

Most of the time, you'll pay more for insurance than it pays out. It's about peace of mind. Saving money for emergencies is better if you're disciplined. You'll be glad you have insurance for big expenses, but it's not always the best choice.
